After we were married, my parents wanted to get me a sewing machine. I refused, saying I had no need for I had no desire to sew. 7 years later, when I learned how satisfying sewing can be, I lamented over my shortsided decision to refuse the purchase. My parents are so kind; 8 years after the initial offer, they put the offer "back on the table." I am the newest and, quite possibly, the most timid owner of a sewing machine. Our little man has been quite sick and when Sunday came along, I was able to stay home with him while the other half of our family attended church. So what did I do? In addition to caring for him, I sewed this:

A dress for our little girl. (It's missing one design element - a felt flower.) For the first time, in my life, I sewed sans assistance. My palms were sweaty and I understood how sewing can bring the most moral person to say words like: ?!@# and @$! ... I didn't actually say anything like that, but I could definitely understand how it could happen. The scoop is this:
I can sew!
CUTE!!! Good job and you did it all by yourself! You were bluffing this whole time, weren't you...you always had it in ya! :)
ReplyDeleteI've never really felt the need for a sewing machine, partly because sewing kind of scares me. But then a few months ago I sewed curtains for my window (on a borrowed machine), and when I went to Utah my sister helped me sew pillows for our couch. I was surprised how well they both turned out, and now I really wish I did have a sewing machine. Have fun with yours!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Great job!!
ReplyDeleteHuh, I was just thinking yesterday or the day before that I MIGHT consider asking for a sewing machine for Christmas so I can make cute things too. (I was thinking about an arts & crafts apron, my boys won't wear a dress) I'm going to think a little more seriously about one now :)
