We have had a leaky kitchen sink. After noticing the leak, I told my husband we probably needed to re-caulk it. He agreed, but said, "We probably just need to use plumber putty." (By the way, did you know there's such a thing as plumber putty? Kudos if you do, I didn't even know it existed.)
Mr. Pea made a quick trip to Lowe's and returned with plumber putty. As I watched him doing the repairs, I asked him where he learned to fix a leaky sink. His reply: "My dad taught me."
Since owning and moving into our first home, I've heard that phrase a lot. I don't know if the teaching was intentional or if my husband learned from observing. No matter, I'm grateful my father-in-law showed his son how to do simple home repairs. It makes me look forward to the future. I wonder what kind of things our children will remember. I hope it's good and useful, like knowing plumber putty exists and is necessary for repairing a leaky kitchen sink.
